Australia Day – Where in the Illawarra will you be?
Hasn’t it been a fabulous summer?! An overdose of beach-time and busy goings-on with family and friends. And, what do you know, Australia Day long weekend rolls around again as a nice bookend to the school holiday.
Seems like more than just a long weekend. For many of us here in our office it feels a like one last chance to slip in some quality family time at the beach before the rigour of the new year begins in earnest.
We welcome a chance to celebrate and acknowledge the good things about our local community.
So much of this blog has been about celebrating where we live. It’s good to give thanks for the beautiful landscape of the Illawarra and all the people who make our home a pleasure.
Everyone here at One Agency Downie & Dennison Pender will be either out on the beaches or headed down to Belmore Basin to watch the fireworks with the tens of thousands of other locals.
So, what’s this celebration looking like? Where will you be?
Here are our top 3 fun picks which you may like to check out at Belmore Basin.
12.30pm – WAVE FM Inflatable Thong Race
This conjures up few weird pictures in our mind. Having talked to WAVE FM though, it seems like a great occasion. It’s the third year now. Anyone see it last year?
You know those boogie board sized inflatable thongs? Well, WAVE FM host two races, each with 10 competitors, daring participants to swim out on the thongs to a buoy in the Basin and back again for a nifty prize.
They’re not revealing what the prize is just yet, but to partake in the race alone seems like you’d be a winner. You can register on site from 11am and competitors will be randomly chosen.
2pm – Ozzy Dog Show
How much do we love dogs here at One Agency Downie & Denison-Pender?! This will be very cute. Among categories like Wollongong’s Top Dog (which means best dressed!), you’ll also see dogs compete for the Best Ozzy Doggy trick and adorable puppies tussling for the title of Best Ozzy Doggy under six months.
4pm-6pm – Roller Hawkes Exhibition
This is great. Wheelchair basketball. This team is amazing. They’ve won the national championship two years in a row! Join their captain Brett Stibners to shoot a few baskets and play against some of the other heroes of the team. A court and some hoops will be set up just opposite the Old Court House (which seems apt). The team would love to see you there.
